I always remember that I am 'unique' just like everyone else.
(with a tendency to forget the latter ; hehehe...)

What's in a Name?

hmmm...lucky to have found this picture. As I always do (putting up images to hide my inability to find suitable headlines for my posts hehehe), this pic should hint all of you on what I am gonna talk about in this post. Yes... NAMES....... I have always been fascinated by names... :

NoName01.cpp , Untitled.html , Chumma ; these are nothing but names that I had in mind for my blog, and finally had to settle with ... what I have now :) I would have taken atleast a weeks time but thats the amount of care I take in naming things before even starting a venture - be it successful or not... Well this post is directed not only @ blogs & their names... According to me - a Name - is much more than mere designation ! To make a name for oneself, sometimes may depend on the very name itself and contrary to that notion - like how Appearances are deceptive - Names may also end up being repulsive. Ofcourse everything lies in the eyes & ears of the beholder and here it is ME :)...

Getting on to my reminiscing ways... I was wondering... what made me take interest in names : ofcourse it was my name : Varun... I just love it ... and am proud of it ... Thanks to appa, amma & roopa - they didnt confuse me by giving me a 'home name' - a 'school name' - a 'workplace name' - a 'public place' name ... hehehe :) ... I really dont know why all other parents do this... wont the kid get confused ?, and I have also heard of hilarious situations where the kid did not respond at school when someone used his 'official' name. For that matter, I would have been proud of any name as long as it does not have any aliases. Unrelated to an extent may be , but I just got reminded of Juliet's words, her perspective is quite different and acceptable, she says that a name is an artificial and meaningless convention.

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."

Refreshing my memory, let me try to list out all the attractive appellations that I can think of :
  • 'Spartan' - my first home away from home... i never know what it means but still its nice to spell out the name :)
  • 'Himas' - a super tingling confectionery, dont know how many of you remember this. I must have forgotten the taste by now but the name remains etched. It was available in shops about 15 years ago :)
  • 'Suja-Suji' - names of my neighbours then, I used to question myself how they can name someone like that, maybe it sounds childish now :)
  • 'Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya' - a traditional flavour may be, but I love the uniqueness about it, an entire post about it is still on the cards :)
  • 'Orchard' - a fruit juice, ice cream & sandwich shop @ mylapore. Each time I go there, I keep telling the guy there that its a wonderful name for such a shop :)
  • 'Yahoo' - my first step into the www, quite abstract but I liked it so much, not the features though :)
  • '2 bajjis & 1 bonda' - a young world quiz team name that won the best team name award, wow I was stunned at their creativity :)
  • 'Axe n Saw' - guess ?... a furniture showroom near vadapalani signal. Am I turning this post to an advertisement of sorts ? :)
  • 'Fresh Catch' - a sea food shop near loyola college, I still want to go there atleast once atleast for a sip of water :)
  • 'Rendezvous' - I started liking it more after learning that the pronounciation has to be (rända-voo), after all words are :)
  • 'piano' - means soft, I liked the name even before I saw a real one :)
  • 'Uncle Scrooge' - zindagi toofaani hai :) jahan hain duck bird...... :) hehehe
  • 'Google' - thats the best example of perfection in every aspect : the name , the appearance, the features.......... hmmm :)
  • '2 point someone' - my quiz team-name at intra-college competitions :)
  • 'BLOG' - yes more than the actual meaning the name given to 'a weblog' attracts me the most and thats why I am here :)
Its obvious that I have missed many more names, but I think these convey more than enough. Getting back to the naming of my blog - I have come to a stage where I have started wondering - Do all names actually justify the named?... in most cases NO !!!... So why bother naming such a blog... no name can really justify its content... - so have decided to re-christen it --- "Why to name it ?" may not be grammatically perfect, but hope it puts my point across. :). You must all have started analyzing names by now... hehehe ... if not ... read this post again !!! ;)
